The apple, as a symbol, was the centerpiece of the downfall of mankind in the Bible, although the apple doesn't get the "bad rap" that the serpent gets.

A popular saying goes like this "an apple a day keeps the doctor away", usually attributed to Benjamin Franklin.

Bobbing for apples is generally considered a fun pastime around harvest festivals and Halloween which feature delicious treats such as popcorn balls and caramel apple.
